Sweater Tights and Reflections

It's been a crazy month. I got back from Europe on the 22nd and haven't really had a moment to breathe until this week. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and everything that comes with it but a good lounge day is in order.

I thought I'd take this time to reflect on the past year and maybe share some goals for the upcoming one. This year has definitely been one of the most challenging but wonderful years of my life. I know a lot of people probably say that but this year has definitely had it's ups and downs.

Style inspiration: Haim (Music)

Another style inspiration post from a band but I just can't help it! Two of my favorite things combined in one post: music and personal style.

Haim is a rock band made up of 3 sisters based in Los Angeles, California. I've actually been listening to them since their first EP came out in 2013. They're an upbeat pop-rock band with great lyrics and catchy melodies. They've actually become quite the stars and becoming friends with the likes of Taylor Swift! They even won a grammy for best up and coming artist! My favorite song by them is currently Running if you call my name: here.

Not only am I a fan of their music but also their style! I am quite jealous of their long, luscious locks but maybe I'll get there one day! Haha. I'd classify their look as a mix of edgy, classic rocker style with vintage pieces mixed in.

It's a short post for today but let me know what you think in the comments below!
Have you ever listened to Haim?

Lazy Days Outfit

If I were a ski bum, this is totally what I would wear.

I've actually never been skiing. I was supposed to go once when I was visiting some friends in Vermont a few years ago but on the mountain it was around -14F the day we were supposed to! We bailed needless to say. I actually don't think I'd be very good at downhill skiing. I love spending time in nature but extreme sports aren't exactly the best for someone who can't see very well. I've been mountain biking and it was pretty much my worst nightmare. But I do think I'd enjoy nordic skiing a lot. It seems a lot more my pace.

This outfit is my go-to for the weekend (or you know, any day when you're FUNemployed....). Big sweater, leggings, turtleneck - yes, please! As I'm sure you can guess - I am pretty in love with turtlenecks now. Once you get used to something around your neck all the time, they can be pretty darn comfortable! I'm on the hunt for the perfect black one now. I originally bought these leggings when I ran cross country but I've ended up wearing them with normal outfits as they have a somewhat leather look to them. These are actually the children's version but they do make adult sizes. I just picked up the smaller ones so I didn't have to get them hemmed.

Sweater: Kohls (Old)
Turtleneck: Thrifted similar
Leggings: Reebok
Shoes: Target (Old)

Outfit: Forgotten Items

Sometimes I forget about items in my closet. I've either had them for so long that I wore them to death or I just never found them to be my style anyways. This can happen a good bit if you're a thrifter like me. It's hard not to pick up pieces you think you'll wear when they are only a dollar but never end up wearing them. While the items in this outfit weren't thrifted, they were forgotten about.

I've had this skirt for quite a while. I think I got it my freshman year of college from H&M. I always forget how much I love it until I put it on. Heart prints always seem a little cheesy to me - probably because I'm not the most romantic person in the world. But I've realized I own a few items of clothing with the print! I also really love the tie at the waist on this skirt.

I paired it with a plain v-neck top from American Eagle as well as my faux suede looking jacket from Urban Outfitters. This jacket is pretty perfect because it's got a faux-sherling inside, which makes it super warm! This is another piece of clothing I seem to forget about but it's actually really warm and cute!

I also went for my tall black boots from Target. I have a feeling these will definitely be a staple for autumn/winter - so warm! I'm not finding them the most comfortable but they are super warm so I'll take what I can get.

Do you have any items you forget about in your closet?

Five Minute Makeup Routine

I haven't done a make-up post in a really long time so I figured I'd show you guys my five minute everyday routine! It's really simple, quick, and makes me feel just a little bit more put together. Do you guys like the occasional beauty post on Lee Thrifts? Let me know!

The first step is my base. I normally start out with the Rimmel Radiance BB Cream in Light. This BB cream gives me just a little bit of coverage while not being too heavy on my skin. I also love that it has SPF! Still need that in the winter. If I have some spots or a little extra time, I use the Maybelline Master Conceal concealer. This concealer is very thick so it's perfect for covering up spots. I have used it under my eyes but I do find it creases a bit there. Then I go over everything with my Rimmel Stay Matte powder. This is definitely a holy grail product - but it should be! It leaves everything in place and leaves my skin matte all day. I then use my standby Clinique Allover color, which is a blush/highlighter duo so it gives my skin the perfect glow. I also like to dab my brush in just the highlighter section for a little extra glow.

Then it's time for the eyes!
First I just swipe on the Maybelline 24 Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze. This cream eyeshadow is very blendable and can easily become very pigmented with more layers. I like to put on a quick sweep just to give my eyelids some shimmer. I then use the L'oreal liquid eyeliner, which is my holy grail eyeliner. It's extremely liquid-y so if you haven't used it before it might take some getting used to but I can swipe it on in a pinch! I then curl my eyelashes and add a coat of the Clinique High Impact Mascara. I've talked about this product far too much but it is just the perfect mascara.

I don't wear a ton of lip products on a day to day basis but I do like my lips to be hydrated. So, I use the Burt's Bees lip balm and then I use the Clinique chubby stick baby tint. It gives just the smallest hint of color while moisturizing my lips perfectly.

What's your go-to make-up look? Do you use any of these products?

Velvet Dress

This outfit was definitely inspired by my previous Outfit inspiration post on Stevie Nicks. I'd never really thought of wearing this velvet dress like this but while I was doing some research on her style I became far more inspired to wear this dress! Plus, I'm having a moment with velvet right now. I wouldn't say my shoes were inspired by Stevie but the rest - most definitely.

I'm also pretty proud of myself for this outfit! It's all second hand. But I think in the past year or so I've maybe picked up 3 items that weren't second hand. I've gotten to a place where retail prices are too high! Ha! Nothing beats half price day at my local thrift store. This dress and shirt were probably 4$ combined.

Style Inspiration: Stevie Nicks (Music)

Last week I talked about some musicians who inspired me because of their 70s inspired looks (First Aid Kit) but today I'm bringing to you the Queen of the 70s: Stevie Nicks.

For those who don't know, Stevie Nicks is (was?) the iconic front woman of Fleetwood Mac. She was also (and still is) a style icon - especially considering the rise of the 70s right now. She perfected the art of draping velvet, flowy dresses, lace, and bell bottoms.

(Billboard magazine)

I couldn't find a whole lot of photos that weren't copyrighted but these are just a few instances of her killer style. I mean, come on, the sleeves on that red dress?? Yes, please. But to sum up her style - lots of velvet, lace, chiffon, floor length dresses, and turtlenecks. Pretty much everything I am digging right now.

That's all I have for today but let me know what you think in the comments below! Do you like Fleetwood Mac?

An Ode to Velvet Leggings

While you're reading this post - I'm on my way to Amsterdam!

I think I've discovered a huge game-changer when it comes to my autumn/winter wardrobe. Velvet leggings. Well, velvet anything - but leggings with this glorious fabric are the real standout here. I don't know if you can tell that these leggings are velvet from the photos (except the one where I'm sitting down) but they're a lot more dynamic in person.

I'm not normally one to wear leggings as pants but I think it's okay with a longer shirt like this. Plus, these leggings are super thick so they could even pass for looking like velvet pants!

This sheer blush colored shirt has surprisingly been a favorite of mine. It's oversized so it's easy to tuck into pants, skirts, etc but it also looks great with thicker leggings and a sweater! This was also a Dublin, Ireland find. I think it's originally from Primark, which isn't great quality but it's actually held up quite well!

My sweater was also second hand but is originally from Target. I don't need another striped sweater but I did really like the boxy fit of this one. It's also a really thick material so it's perfect for this time of year. I only wish it had full length sleeves.

This is actually a pretty Target heavy outfit as my flats are from there as well.

I hope you enjoyed today's outfit! Have you ever worn velvet leggings?

November Favorites

I'm back with my November beauty and fashion favorites! And as you're reading this... I'm on my way to France! Yay!

Starting off with haircare my first favorite is the OGX Macadamia Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. These are supposed to be extremely hydrating on the hair let me tell you - they are! I don't have super dry hair but in the winter months I do notice it takes quite a toll on my hair. So, I decided to try out this shampoo and condition and it works wonders! My hair has never been softer. I've tried one other OGX shampoo before and didn't like it but this one is amazing!

Onto Skincare...

Another cold weather favorite is slathering a ton of moisturizer on my body ha. The one I've been loving is the Dirty Works Supreme Body Butter. I picked it up at Marshal's the other day and am in love! I've tried the body scrub from Dirty works before and I loved the scent so I decided to try the body butter. It's got a nice sea salty scent with a hint of sweetness, which is just so nice! It's a fairly thick body butter so it's perfect for this time of year when my body craves all the moisture it can get! It also comes in a huge tub so this will last me ages.

I only have one make-up favorite but I've really been enjoying it. It's the Rimmel Radiance BB Cream in Light. It's supposed to be a 9-in-1 products, which I don't think it holds to all of those claims but it definitely is a stand-out product! They have a mattifying version but because of my dry skin I prefer the radiance one. I don't find it really makes my skin all that luminous but it does hide my pores and provide a natural coverage pretty darn well. I don't even need concealer when I wear it as I find it's pretty buildable on spots. The light shade is also the perfect shade for my very fair skin.

As for fashion it should come as no surprise if you follow my blog - Turtlenecks! I never thought of them s a staple before but I can't stop wearing them now! They're chic, comfortable and so warm! You'll definitely be seeing a lot of them on the blog this winter.

Let me know what you think in the comments! What were you loving this month?
