8 Tips for Blogging and Working Full-Time

I've been at my current full-time position since March. I've also been blogging since last summer while I was (f)unemployed. So, I've had some time to come up with some tips and tricks to blogging and working full time. Blogging can feel like a full-time job in itself so it can be easy to get bogged down and burnt out from basically working two jobs (one of which you might not get paid for!)

1. Plan posts in advance
I'm all about writing posts when the inspiration strikes but I've found one of the easiest ways to balance the whole working 9-5/blogging thing is about planning your posts ahead of time. I don't mean writing your posts out a month ahead of time but at least make a calendar with post ideas and when you want to publish them.
I recently picked up a notebook to go along with my planner and it is a lifesaver! I use it to draft posts before I type them out, write down post ideas, when I find a cool location to remember, outfit ideas, etc!

2. Utilize your Commute
This only works if you ride public transit but I've recently downloaded the Buffer app and have been scheduling tweets for the day on my bus ride to work. It's such a handy tool and I can't believe I haven't been doing it!

3. Utilize your weekends!
On a similar vein, I find my weekends to be when I'm most productive on my blog. I like to wake up early at least one day a week and shoot some photos or write some posts for the upcoming week. But it's also important to remember....

4. Take a break!
It doesn't always happen but I try and give myself one day where I don't need to work on anything too difficult for my blog. I try and shoot some photos or maybe write one post but when you've been working a full week/blogging it's important to remember to take a break when you need it!

5. Designate times
If I am blogging at night after work, I like to designate certain nights to it. Right now, I'm trying Tuesdays/Thursdays but I like to change it up in case something comes up. I find it a lot easier to designate nights to when you're going to work so you feel more compelled to do it. Write them in your planner! It helps keep yourself accountable.

6. Take Bulk Photos
If you plan ahead - bulk photos are a savior! I especially like to do this for beauty posts if I know what posts will be coming up in the next few weeks. On occasion, I'll take an entire day and shoot a bunch of different outfit posts but sometimes I like to do those sporadically throughout the week(end).

7. Have a backup plan
Over the past year, I've been pretty good about keeping to a posting schedule.... until this summer. This is where I learned a very valuable lesson if I want to stick to my posting schedule. I like to have a backup post if the weather is bad, something comes up, etc and I can't shoot photos. While I've really been enjoying making a schedule, if something goes wrong it is really nice to have a backup post!

8. Work in different spaces
It can be a little stale if you work in an office all day and then go home and stare at your computer some more to blog. I like to get to different coffeeshops or even outside and get a new perspective. It's never a bad idea to get out of your normal routine and try writing/scheduling social media/editing photos/etc somewhere else. I think it can especially help if you've had a really long day and the last thing you want to do is come home and write (and edit) some more.

Do you work full-time and blog?
Let me know if you have any tips!
